London Concours to celebrate automotive icons with an unmissable display of ‘Legendary AC Cars’

From Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 5th June, the London Concours will play host to a display of British automotive royalty, with a showcase of ‘Legendary AC Cars’. Bringing together icons from the British marque’s storied history, the ‘Legendary AC Cars’ class will feature 12 of the finest examples of British sports car engineering, with the showcase sponsored by AC Cars, Britain’s oldest operating vehicle manufacturer.

Taking to the lawn of the Honourable Artillery Company will be AC’s most recognisable creation, the 1964 AC Cobra. This particular example that will form a part of the London Concours line-up is one of the most famously and successfully raced AC Cobras, ‘CPG 4C’. Piloted by racing icons such as Roy Salvadori, Chris Amon and Bob Bondurant, this AC Cobra has been a regular and popular feature of historic racing meets, competing at Goodwood Revival, the Le Mans Classic and the Spa Six Hours.

Also joining the ‘Legendary AC Cars’ class is a wonderfully unique example of the 1954 AC Aceca, a sublime prototype which was first owned by the land and water speed record-breaker, Donald Campbell. Built in 1954 for the Earls Court Motor Show, where it was voted ‘Car of the Show’, the AC Aceca caught the attention of Campbell, who purchased the car and very soon changed its paintwork to his favourite ‘Bluebird Blue’ colourway. Since then, the now nicknamed ‘AC Bluebird’ has undergone an extensive restoration, using original paint from Campbell’s Bluebird K7, while maintaining its original 100B Bristol engine and gearbox.

Combining a slice of Italian style and elegance with British sports car excellence, the 1967 AC 428 Frua Spyder was playfully compared to the brand’s signature model by media at the time, described as “…a Cobra in an Italian suit”. Chassis number CF3 will join the ‘Legendary AC Cars’ class at this year’s London Concours, one of just three prototypes to remain in existence, and the only to have a manual gearbox.

Andrew Evans, London ConcoursDirector, said: “The London Concours is all about celebrating legendary automotive brands, especially British icons such as AC. An automotive garden party unlike anything else in the heart of the capital, the London Concours will be the perfect location to assemble some of the marque’s most iconic creations.

“Across all three days of the London Concours, we will be assembling over a hundred of the world’s finest classic cars, supercars and hypercars, and the ‘Legendary AC Cars’ class promises to be an unmissable display of exemplary British motoring.”

David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, added: “We’re delighted and excited to be sponsoring the ‘Legendary AC Cars’ class at this year’s London Concours, which is held less than eight miles from where the company was founded. As a marque we have an unrivalled heritage, and we’re proud to have such a display alongside our latest models.”

The London Concours has become one of the most unmissable events on the UK’s automotive calendar, combining the excitement of the world’s finest classics, supercars and hypercars with the atmospheric buzz of the city. As Britain’s oldest active car maker, we’re looking forward to bringing our combined heritage and forward thinking vision to the Honourable Artillery Company in June.”
